Case Study

Valora - OTC Derivatives Valuation Platform

Overview

Avadhoot, during his tenure at a leading financial institution, led the transformation of the OTC Derivatives Valuation Platform (Valora), the bank’s global pricing engine for OTC derivatives. The initiative unified fragmented legacy systems into a single, scalable, and highly automated platform, improving efficiency, transparency, and operational oversight across global pricing operations.

The Challenge

The institution relied on two legacy systems — arising out of a merger of two large financial institutions — each with strengths but operating in silos.

Challenges included:

  • Fragmented pricing workflows and redundant processes

  • Manual touch points leading to inefficiency and errors

  • Lack of transparency in price validation and auditing

  • Difficulty in scaling to new asset classes, pricing vendors, or accounting platforms

The vision was to create a single, trusted pricing engine capable of serving multiple regions and asset classes while enabling rigorous oversight and faster time-to-market.

What We Did

Under Avadhoot’s leadership, a cross-functional team executed an end-to-end transformation:

  • Conducted comprehensive functional and architectural comparison of legacy systems

  • Defined Valora architecture: one global application with browser-based delivery

  • Integrated multiple data sources and normalized pricing

  • Automated price scrubbing and outlier detection with full transparency

  • Implemented tiered user access, enhanced security, and extensive audit trails

  • Adopted an iterative, agile delivery process with continuous testing, feedback, and updates

  • Planned phased rollout across global pricing groups to ensure smooth adoption

The Impact

This project set a new benchmark for operational efficiency, transparency, and global scalability in derivatives pricing. Valora is now a trusted reference data hub and a model for continuous improvement and innovation in financial services operations.
